Real Estate in the Northeast
I am a realtor covering primarily Hernando County (Spring Hill, Brooksville and Weeki Wachee), who moved here from Long Island. I have a brother in Cape Cod, MA so I flew from Tampa to Providence, RI first to visit him. While vacationing with my brother and his family in the Cape, I of course as a realtor, checked out the market there. Unfortunately, I left the so-called “Hurricane State of Florida” to a forecasted Hurricane, where else but the Cape. Luckily, it was just windy. The prices have dropped there, but not as much as Florida. There is quite a few on the market, but I didn’t see many foreclosures.
Hernando, Pasco and Citrus Counties still have affordable homes and it is a great place to live.
I then took the ferry to Orient Point, Long Island to visit my friends in Medford/Patchogue (Suffolk County) where I sold my home to move to Weeki Wachee in 2004. The prices on Long Island have dropped significantly and the homeowner taxes are very high. I curently pay about $3,700 for a 2500 square foot one acre home in a beautiful subdivision in Weeki Wachee. The home I sold in Long Island was a small 1200 square foot ranch, the taxes are now $7,000. They don’t base their taxes on home values like they do in Florida. You have to grieve your taxes which costs money and time, and you don’t always win. We complain about our taxes in Florida, but there are a lot worse places. It is hard finding jobs anywhere, but Long Island has been hit very hard and who can afford to live there.
I also visited a friend in Flatbush, Brooklyn but that’s a story for another day!
I love Weeki Wachee and will be here for a long time! Long Island is a nice place to visit but I don’t want to live there any more.
We will always keep you posted!
Have a great day and enjoy!
Remember, to always have an “educated realtor”.
